John W. McAlpine married 11 Nov 1869 in Mobile, Alabama, Ellen H Easton FHL film 1294426 v 23-25

1880: Forkland, Greene

  • McAlpine, J.W. 34 Farmer
  • E H 32 wife (b. 1848) – according to Ellen Hope Henagan Rucker’s death record, her mother was Ellen Easton. And other records suggest she was Ellen Hope Easton.
  • J.W. 8 son
  • E.H. 4 dtr (b. about 1876)

There is an Ellen Mcalpine married 24 Jan 1894 in Green to J.D. Dr. Henagan FHL film 1290854

If this Ellen is E.H. the daughter in the family of J.H. and E.H. his wife above, she’d have been 18 at the time of this marriage. J.D. Henagon evidently does not live beyond the century as he does not appear in the census outside of the family that might have been his:

There is, in 1880 in Jones’ Bluff, Sumter, this family:

  • Charles S. Henagan 50 South Carolina widower
  • Ann 80 (mother) South Carolina
  • Julia A. 52 sister teaching school
  • Effie M ? sister teaching school  SC
  • Lowndes E 21 Nephew  SC
  • Malcom I 16 niece  SC
  • James D. M 13 Son  AL
  • William B  12 son AL
  • Celestine? M Ferrell sister in law 40  SC

–This would be an interesting family to research.  Darby, evidently, Charles’’ brother, is on pg 32 and they are on image, actually, 34. Darby was a physician and in 1870, he had the mother and older sisters living with him.  He is married in 1880, and I guess that made things uncomfortable – all those women in the household, so here they are with Charles, who I can’t find in 1870 – when his sons would have been 2 and 3 – both born in Alabama.

I can’t find Charles anywhere – using the census. I don’t know where he was in 1870, when James was 3.

James D. Henagan who is 13 Alabama South Carolina Alabama

Sumter and Greene share a border, and I have other families that lived on either side.

1900:  in Jones’s Bluff, Sumter, Al

  • *** Ben B Grover 16 – this is Benners Brasfield Vail, I’m thinking. He was 7 in 1820
  • Neel R Grover 12 – and this is the age Ellen R Vail would be.  Evidently, Mary didn’t live.
